Allison Haltom, Of Counsel

Allison Haltom enjoyed a distinguished 30-year career at Duke University in higher education fundraising and administration, retiring as University Secretary and vice president of the University in 2008 and joining moss+ross in 2011.

Allison offers moss+ross clients her deep expertise in board structure and governance, senior administrative searches, and fundraising. As Duke University Secretary, she served as the institution’s primary liaison with the Board of Trustees and was responsible for all activities relating to the Board. In 2008, Duke University recognized her distinguished service with the awarding of the University Medal.

She understands the importance of well functioning boards as both an administrator and board member. She served on the boards of trustees of UNC-Asheville, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Durham Academy, where she was also chair. Allison is a member of the Board of Directors of the Hill Center, where she has twice served as the Board’s chair, and is a member the Board of Trustees of The Mary Duke Biddle Foundation.

Allison is a graduate of Duke University, and she and her husband David McClay, a professor in the Department of Biology at Duke, are long-time Durham residents. They are members of Trinity Avenue Presbyterian Church, where Allison has served as an elder. They have two grown children, Katie and David, and two grandsons, Andrew and Elliott.

Fun fact:  Among her professional accomplishments was hiring both Susan and Mary when she was Director of Annual Giving at Duke.
