John Montgomery brings more than 40 years of fundraising experience in higher education to his consulting work with moss+ross. His skills include organizational and leadership development, principal and major gift fundraising and board management.  

 John comes to moss+ross after 25 years at the UNC Educational Foundation/Rams Club where he served as Executive Director. During that time, the Rams Club successfully completed two capital campaigns, experienced significant membership growth, completed fundraising for more than 40 capital projects and launched FORevHER Tar Heels – an initiative to support women’s athletics at Carolina. 

 Prior to his time at UNC, John led the fundraising efforts at Radford University, UNC Greensboro and Southern Methodist University. 

 A native of Virginia, John graduated from Radford University with a BS is History and Business. He earned his Master’s Degree in Sport Administration from Western Illinois University. 

 John is on the board of Carolina Performing Arts and continues to serve as an advisor and mentor at the Rams Club. He and his wife, Sharie, live in Pittsboro.
