A new year and the opportunity to start again…easy to ponder, harder to achieve. Inspiration is a powerful force that drives creativity, productivity, and success, yet staying consistently inspired can be tough amid tasks, deadlines, and day-to-day demands.

moss+ross recommends several strategies to ignite motivation and maintain a positive mindset throughout the year.

1. Set Goals Tied to Outcomes

Set clear, achievable written goals that are tied to outcomes for your organization, your clients, and yourself. Do you and your organization set goals annually? Are your goals part of a longer-term strategic plan? When you have well-defined goals that are tied to outcomes, the mundane becomes the meaningful, deadlines are important milestones that celebrate progress and demands become easier to prioritize.

  • The moss+ross strategic plan is guiding significant growth across new sectors, with goals tied to outcomes that make a difference to our nonprofit partners and help them achieve their missions. In two years, we have increased client services by 32 percent, with a three-fold increase in strategic planning services.

2. Be Part of Building a Positive Culture

Your workplace plays a crucial role in fostering inspiration. Whether it is offering clear and consistent communications, investing in technology, or offering leadership training, it is important to incorporate elements that inspire positivity, enabling team members to focus on the mission. This includes offering a word of encouragement when a colleague needs it the most.

  • At moss+ross, we place a premium on creating and supporting a team approach to provide thoughtful and timely solutions for our nonprofit clients. To meet the needs of our nonprofit partners, moss+ross has added new technologies, expanded our partnerships, and invested in growing the team to 11 partners, 20 associates and 50 affiliate contractors, all of whom share our vision of Impact That Matters.

3. Say Yes to the New

Inspiration often comes from new people, new experiences, and new challenges. Working with colleagues, partners, or peers within and outside your organization can offer fresh perspectives and ideas. Taking on new challenges can reignite excitement and spark creativity.

  • At moss+ross, we continually study nonprofit trends, learn about new technologies, and focus on innovative ways to help our nonprofit partners achieve their missions. In 2024, we invested in learning about the appropriate uses of AI for streamlining analysis, offered opportunities for nonprofit CEOs to gather in community and share experiences, provided sponsorships and scholarships to nonprofit partners and development professionals, offered numerous pro bono training sessions, and expanded our relationships with funders that believe, like we do, that we must do more to support our nonprofit leaders.

Thank you our nonprofit leaders, our community volunteers, and our funders for all that you do. You inspire us every day, and we welcome the opportunity to work together in making our communities better for everyone. If you are interested in joining moss+ross on this journey, please let us know how we can collaborate.
