Bridging Gaps with Interim Placements

This past year, I had a meaningful opportunity to serve as an m+r interim solutions® affiliate contractor with the development team at the historic Carolina Theatre in Durham. My assignment began as the Senior Director was headed out on maternity leave.

Interim roles are designed for exactly these moments—when an organization is in transition and needs steady support to continue progress. I arrived at the Carolina Theatre during a flurry of holiday donor events and as preparations began for the Theatre’s 2026 Centennial Campaign. My primary goal was to ensure the development team’s crucial relationships with donors remained strong and well-supported throughout the transition, and to build on the great work they were already doing.

As the Theatre team worked together, we took opportunities to strengthen stewardship efforts and refine donor data in ways that will ensure seamless fundraising events and campaigns in the future. We organized the 4th annual Dancing with the Carolina Stars, which raised more than $230,000, surpassing its goal. Throughout my interim placement, I saw firsthand how adaptability, dedication, and teamwork drive success. Thanks to the trust and support from both the Theatre’s staff and m+r interim solutions team, this period of transition felt less like a challenge and more like a shared accomplishment.

Now that my interim placement has ended, I am excited to continue my connection to this vibrant community. I have transitioned to the moss+ross consulting team supporting the launch and implementation of the Centennial Campaign throughout 2026. Having served “on the inside” during a pivotal period, I am uniquely positioned to help guide strategy and maintain the momentum the Theatre team has built.

Currently m+r interim solutions affiliate contractors like me are working with nonprofits across North Carolina through times of change and organizational evolution. We are providing more than 1,000 hours of support each month, guiding organizations through transitions by serving as interim executive directors, development directors, grant writers, event leaders, database specialists, campaign managers, and operational and finance experts. If your organization is facing a transition or needs extra support to keep your mission moving forward, please reach out and let us help your organization write your own success story!
